House of the Good Shepherd serves with love and compassion women and children affected by domestic violence by offering a safe place with opportunities for emotional, educational and spiritual growth, giving hope and continued support for a better future.

Healing and recovery is the focus of all work with our clients. When the women first arrive, after a period of orientation, they begin to take classes consisting of: Domestic Violence, Spirituality, Journaling, Life Skills, Addiction, Financial Management, ESL & GED preparation. The women bring their school aged children to school and arrange for their own childcare for their infants and preschoolers in order to attend classes. The children enjoy homework help, Read With Me, Child Friend, special outings and other activities. There are monthly family activities to encourage nurturing and bonding between mom & children. From 5:00 to 6:30 pm families are in their apartments for meal preparation and a family meal. The case managers assist clients with getting Orders of Protection, Immigration Documents, TANF & SNAP benefits and housing applications.
